San Juan National Forest
Pagosa Ranger District
ACCESS: Turn north off
U.S. Hwy 160 just west of Pagosa Springs onto Piedra Rd. (CR
600, which becomes FS Rd. #631). Follow for about 26 mi. (the
first 6 mi. are paved, the rest is gravel).
DIRECTIONS: The trail
(marked #587 on the SJNF Recreation Map) follows Williams
Creek north into the Weminuche Wilderness. Motorized vehicles
and mountain bikes are not allowed. There is a steep climb
after the first .5 mi., but the rest is gradual. The Indian
Creek Trail takes off to your right at the 2.5 mi. point.
At 3 mi., the trail passes through what looks like a huge
walled garden with unique rock formations. It then continues
11 mi. to the Continental Divide.
