An interesting application of the Cost of Living Index (COLI) is to adjust local median household income to better understand purchasing power. The below table shows county median household income adjusted by the cost of living index, to estimate actual median purchasing power in the local economy. This result is only suggestive and demonstrates how incomes could be normalized using costs. Median Household Income Adjusted by Cost of Living Index (COLI).
