These paintings are oil washes on paper. I use multiple layers of analogous
colors to either give depth or to flatten these largely monochromatic works.
Some have charcoal drawing layered over the wash - also indicative of the
many surfaces in a story.
I paint on an intuitive level, out of my own experiences. The figures
sometimes are the environment and other times are placed in familiar environments.
Not an environment recognizable as a particular place but as a space- emotional
or otherwise- we may have all explored. I use the figure, somewhat a self-portrait
but more a representation of human experience, to tell stories. Again, not a
particular story, but one that fits into others, altered by individual experiences.
