Tibetan Buddhist spiritual master and beloved teacher Za Choeje Rinpoche will be in Durango on Sunday April 13th and Monday April 14th for three events open to the public.

Za Rinpoche is a Tibetan monk who first came to the world's attention when his life story was chronicled in the first chapter of Po Bronson's megabestseller, What Should I Do with My Life? While growing up in a refugee camp in Southern India, he was recognized by the Dalai Lama as the sixth reincarnation of the Za Choeje Rinpoche. He is the founder of the Emaho Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona, dedicated to sharing Tibetan culture with the West, supporting humanitarian projects, and assisting with personal spiritual development.

On Sunday April 13th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Rinpoche will present a short video and slide show at Himalayan Cuisine, 992 Main Avenue in Durango.  The presentation will feature images and tales from his first visit to Tibet, which took place in 2006. By tradition he carries the spiritual lineage and has responsibility for a remote region in Tibet, where he had never been.  This presentation will provide insight into the Tibetan culture and religion and explain Rinpohe's service to this area, despite Chinese invasion.  The cost of this event is $8.95, which includes the lunch buffet.  Space is limited; call (970) 259-0956 to make a reservation.

From 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on that same day, Maria’s Bookshop at 960 Main Avenue will host a book signing with Rinpoche featuring The Backdoor to Enlightenment: Eight Steps to Living Your Dreams and Changing Your World, co-written with Ashley Nebelsieck and published by Random House.  More than just a heartfelt story of mystery and discovery, this revolutionary work stands out as a smart, clear guide in which Rinpoche discredits common myths about how to grow spiritually and find happiness. Rinpoche introduces six qualities--generosity, morality, patience, effort, concentration, and wisdom--and shows readers how these traits can lead to lasting peace.  For more information about the event, call (970) 247-1438 or visit www.mariasbookshop.com.

On Monday April 14th from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Rinpoche will conduct another signing at  Durango Dharma Center, 2530 Colorado Avenue,  followed by a sitting meditation at Rinpoche will offer a Dharma talk followed by more book signing at 7:30 to 8:00 p.m.  For more information contact Mara LeGrand at skydancer@frontier.net.
