Young baseball fans can exhibit their baseball skills when Durango Parks and Recreation Department host the Colorado Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge competition on Wednesday, June 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the Riverview Sports Complex.

Durango, CO - Young baseball fans can exhibit their baseball skills when Durango Parks and Recreation Department host the Colorado Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge competition on Wednesday, June 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the Riverview Sports Complex.  The competition is free and is open to boys and girls ages 6 through 13 (age classification is as of December 31, 2008).  Boys and girls will compete in separate divisions. 

Entry forms are available at the Durango Community Recreation Center.  Participants can pre-register at the Recreation Center or at Riverview Sports Complex from 8:15 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. the day of the event.  All participants receive certificates signed by Colorado Rockies manager, Clint Hurdle.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are recognized at each level of the competition. 

Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge is a baseball competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in base running, batting and throwing with scores based on speed, distance and accuracy.  This is a youth program of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association with support from the Colorado Rockies

Top scorers from each age group advance to a sectional competition in Grand Junction, Colorado on Sunday, July 20.  Top sectional scorers from each age group then advance to the State Championship to be held on Sunday, August 23 at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colorado.  After the competition, all finalists will be invited to the Colorado Rockies vs. the Cincinnati Reds game.
