DURANGO, Colo. – Tickets for two special summer shows at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College – Texas-based Western Swing band Asleep at the Wheel on Aug. 13, and blues legend Taj Mahal on Aug. 14 – will go on sale July 1.
“Both Asleep at the Wheel and Taj Mahal have been warmly welcomed by Durango audiences in the past, so we’re pleased they’re able to return this summer,” said Gary Penington, out-going Concert Hall managing director who booked the shows. “Taj Mahal will be performing as the Taj Mahal Trio featuring Bill Rich on bass and Kester Smith on drums.”
In reviving the freewheeling, eclectic sensibility of Western Swing Godfather Bob Wills, Grammy award winning Asleep at the Wheel has earned enthusiastic critical praise throughout its nearly 40-year musical career. Tickets are set at $25 for Orchestra and Balcony and $30 for Plaza.
The Taj Mahal Trio, led by Grammy winner Mahal, has been playing together for more than 30 years, blending sounds of folk, jazz, zydeco, gospel, rock, pop, blues and soul to form a truly unique sound. Tickets are $40 for Orchestra and Balcony and $50 for Plaza.
Tickets are available on the web, www.durangoconcerts.com, by calling 970.247.7657 and at the Ticketing Office in Downtown Durango at 7th and Main Ave. All sales are final.
Curtain for both shows is 8:00 p.m., with doors to the Spotlight Lounge offering beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 7:00 p.m.
