– The City of Durango’s Public Art Commission is seeking four volunteers to assist in selection of two installation art pieces for the new Durango Public Library. Deadline for those interested in applying is Mon., June 30.
The Public Art Commission recently invited artists within the four corner region to submit qualifications and proposals for two original, three-dimensional works of art to be placed in the new library. Final selection will be completed by the art selection committees.
Two community volunteers are needed to serve on the selection committee for a Storyteller’s Chair. This functional sculpture will be part of the Storytime Room and will be used by a storyteller. Parents of preschool and/or elementary school-aged children are encouraged to apply.
Two additional volunteers are needed to serve on the selection committee for a Stairwell Sculpture. This sculpture will be suspended or mounted as a wall relief in the main stairwell between the first and second floors of the library.
Volunteers for either committee must not earn their living in the arts. The committees will meet Tues., July 8 to select the finalists for each project, and will meet again Aug. 12, 2008 to determine the two pieces that will become part of the library’s permanent art collection.
To participate in the selection process or for more information, contact the Durango City Manager’s Office at 375.5005, or email CityManager@ci.durango.co.us.
