Mountain Park Classic set for July 12

DURANGO, Colo. – The only formal trail race in the Durango Mountain Park, the 3rd Annual Mountain Park Classic, kicks-off on Sat., July 12 at 8:30 a.m. in the Durango Tech Center.  The race is the second in the Town Series, and sponsored by First National Bank of Durango.

The Mountain Park Classic features a challenging 7-mile course, a vigorous 4-mile course, and gentle 1-mile course.  Participants are encouraged to run, hike or walk any course with family and friends. Dogs are welcome to run in the race. Those who wish to participate but are not registered for the Town Series are also invited.

Every participant will receive a water bottle, courtesy of First National Bank of Durango. Post-race awards will be presented for, “Best Mud,” “Best Blood” and “First Dog.” 

Register for the Mountain Park Classic at the Durango Community Recreation Center or on-line at www.active.com.  Early registration for the race ended July 6, however late registration will continue until Fri., July 20 at noon. 

Race day registration and bib pick-up will take place from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at Chinook Medical Gear, Inc. – located at 120 Rock Point Drive.

Durango Parks and Recreation and First National Bank of Durango also invite all participants who registered for the Mother’s Day Telegraph on May 11, to register for the entire Town Series. Series participants receive a Series dri-fit runner’s jersey courtesy of First National Bank of Durango. As an added incentive, First National will enter all Series participants into a drawing to win a $50 savings bond. Participants must register for the entire Series prior to the start of the Mountain Park Classic in order to be eligible for the drawing. 

The City of Durango Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of parks, trails, forestry, cemetery, open space, and recreation services to the community. More than 30,000 people participate annually in recreation programs and special events offered by Parks and Recreation.
