DURANGO, Colo. – Following two sell-out shows in summer 2007, Latin jazz artists the Mambo Kings are back by popular demand in both Durango and Pagosa Springs, July 27 and 28, as part of the 2008 Music in the Mountains Festival. Prior to the Mambo Kings’ concert in Durango, Steamworks Brewing Co. will reprise its “Fine Beer and Cheese Pairing” event, featuring signature craft beers and cheese selections.

In 2007, the Mambo Kings were the first jazz ensemble to participate in Music in the Mountains at both BootJack Ranch outside of Pagosa Springs and Durango Mountain Resort in Durango. Formed in 1995 by pianist-arranger Richard Delaney, the Mambo Kings perform as a self-contained ensemble and with symphony orchestras. Delaney was music director and arranger for Orquesta La Muralla, a legendary Salsa band, before launching the Mambo Kings. He has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic and Paquito D’Rivera.

Joining Delaney onstage will be saxophonist John Viavattine, who has shared the stage with The Temptations, Ray Charles, Patti Page, Connie Francis, Vic Damone and Lou Rawls. Veteran Latin band member Hector Diaz will be on bass, with David Antonetti and Wilfredo (Freddy) Colon as the featured percussionists.

The Mambo Kings concerts are set for Sun., July 27 at 7 p.m. at BootJack Ranch in Pagosa Springs, and Mon., July 28 at 7 p.m. at Durango Mountain Resort. Tickets are $45 per person for the BootJack Ranch show, and $35 or $45 per person at Durango Mountain Resort, depending on seating.
