DURANGO, Colo. – David Hidalgo and Louie Perez, the principal songwriters of the legendary roots/rock band Los Lobos will present a special night of acoustic music and priceless tales at the Community Concert Hall, Wednesday, April 16, 7 p.m.
For more than 35 years, Hidalgo and Perez have created the songs that made Los Lobos one of the world’s most innovative and critically acclaimed groups. Formed in the mid 1970s, the band began as a traditional acoustic Mexican group, but under the influence of L.A.’s ‘80s punk rock scene, the members decided to go electric, thus incorporating their blues, R&B, Tex-Mex and rock influences into a more energized sound.
In 1987, the band achieved widespread fame creating the soundtrack for the movie “La Bamba,” a story about the life and tragic end of Mexican-American pop star Richie Valenz. As reported in Rolling Stone magazine, “…with the exception of U2, no other band has stayed on top of its game as long as Los Lobos.”
Beyond Los Lobos, Hidalgo and Perez compositions have been recorded by artists such as Waylon Jennings and Bonnie Raitt. Their conscious-raising songs are recognized for offering thought-provoking lyrics that interpret the pulse of the times.
In this special Concert Hall performance, the duo offers a departure from the large scale Los Lobos shows and focus on the songs and the process of their creation. Following a performance of favorite Los Lobos songs as well as never recorded compositions, Hidalgo and Perez will return to the stage for what promises to be an entertaining and thought provoking conversation with the audience on the art of songwriting.
For a behind-the-scenes look at the band, visit the Los Lobos web site and review a series of podcasts, http://www.loslobos.org/site/media.shtml.
Tickets for David Hidalgo and Louie Perez - $30 for Orchestra and Balcony, $40 for Plaza – are available on the web at www.durangoconcerts.com by calling 970.247.7657, or in person at the Ticketing Offices in Durango at 7th and Main Ave., and Bayfield, inside Bayfield Music. All sales are final.
Doors to the Spotlight Lounge offering beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. All sales are final.
The Community Concert Hall is located in the growing arts complex of Fort Lewis College. It operates through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, as well as the city of Durango, and with financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
