DURANGO, Colo. - Veteran electric cooperative professional Darrick Robinson has been promoted to the Dispatch team at La Plata Electric Association (LPEA).

Robinson has been with LPEA for two years, previously serving as a Journeyman lineman. In his new position, Robinson, along with the entire dispatch team, oversees system operations, monitoring power flows and voltage, fielding calls when problems occur within LPEA’s service area, trouble-shooting outages and dispatching crews to restore power.

“My first day we had a big storm,” said Robinson who was indoctrinated into the “busy” side of Dispatch immediately, though the relatively quiet weather since late January has facilitated his training.

Originally, from Illinois, Robinson began his career path as an apprentice and Journeyman lineman in South Dakota, moving to Florida before coming to Durango to take the LPEA position. His experience as a lineman promises to aid in his Dispatch role.

 “Darrick’s years of experience as a lineman will add to his effectiveness on the Dispatch Team,” said Steve Gregg, LPEA manager of operations. “He knows what our crews are facing during an outage or when working on equipment, and what information they need to facilitate their work in the field. We’re really glad he was awarded the position.”

Married with a step-daughter, Robinson hasn’t had opportunity to explore the outdoor activities for which Durango is known, spending his time off renovating his Durango home.
