After a four-month search, the Board of County Commissioners announced their intent to enter into an employment agreement with Shawn Nau of Maricopa County, Arizona to become the La Plata County Manager. The details of the contract will be formalized at the February 12, 2008 Business Meeting. Nau is expected to assume his new duties on March 31, 2008.
Mr. Nau brings 20 plus years of public administration experience, which spans a broad spectrum of assignments and issues. Mr. Nau, an attorney, has served as the Director of General Government Services for Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix and it’s surrounding suburbs, for the past 8 years. As the Director of General Government Services, Mr. Nau was responsible for administrating a $325 million annual budget and supervising over 100 employees.
In a series of interviews, Nau impressed county staff and officials with his commitment to professional and organizational excellence, his demonstrated leadership ability, and his reputation for honesty and integrity. Joelle Riddle, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, said that she is confident that Nau will serve the county well and is looking forward to working with him on the many challenges facing our organization and our community. A reception to introduce Mr. Nau to staff and county residents will be scheduled in mid-April.
