DURANGO, Colo. – The Edgar Winter Band, featuring the legendary performer Edgar Winter, comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College Sun., Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m.
Still jamming as hard and heavy since his smashes "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride" captured an era in pop history and redefined the possibilities of fusing blues with rock, Edgar Winter (www.edgarwinter.com) continues to defy musical trends. Perhaps best known for seventies albums such as Road Work and They Only Come Out At Night, Winter was also one of the early masters of the synthesizer. His use of the instrument as a foundation for his sound is considered groundbreaking.
Raised in Beaumont, Tex., the younger brother of ukulele player and guitarist Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter is known for pushing himself in new directions, synthesizing the rock, blues and jazz melodies he hears in his head. A talented saxophonist, keyboardist and composer, Winter remains at heart a blues musician who's never been afraid to venture into multiple musical arenas.
According to Amazon.com, “Winter has never been a follower, just a true leader. With his latest release Rebel Road (July 2008), Edgar Winter manages to rock pretty righteously… The album which is painted with highlights from the substantial saxophone & keyboard talents of Winter, not to mention some of his finest singing, recalls the best of his work with the Edgar Winter Group… Edgar Winter doing what he does best - rocking out with passion and lots of drums and guitar. Welcome back Edgar Winter.”
Winter's live shows continue to receive rave reviews. View the Edgar Winter Band performing “Frankenstein” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCAUIGYhJAA&feature=related.
