Durango, CO – Kids preschool through 5th grade are invited to join “Catch the Reading Bug,” the 2008 Summer Reading Program at the Durango Public Library. Registration for this “buggy” summer program began this week and continues through July. Kids will get incentives for time they spend reading or are read to. “Catch the Reading Bug” programs and incentives will also be available at the branch libraries at Sunnyside Elementary School and Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School. Kids are encouraged to swarm to the library and go buggy for books this summer!
Four special events for kids will be held in June on Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the Durango Arts Center. On June 5th, Ann Lincoln will present a “Magic Bug Show” including magic tricks, juggling, comedy and a Pomeranian puppy. On June 12th, Tom Cornwell will present “Bug Songs.” On June 19th, Wayne Francis, ventriloquist, will perform. And on June 26th, Durango’s own Matt Simonsen will perform his “Magic Show.” Matt is 13 years old and has worked with Mysto the Magi. Free tickets for these events must be picked up at the library in advance. Program attendance will be limited based on the size of the room.
In addition, two fun and goofy science experiment programs will be offered to kids in grades 2 through 5.
These programs will be held at the Durango Recreation Center on Tuesday, June 24 and Tuesday, July 8. Both programs begin at 2:00 p.m. Advance free tickets are also required for these programs.
The final party for the summer reading program will take place on Thursday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center.
For additional information, contact Rita Curtis at 275-3385, or drop by the library at 1188 E. 2nd Avenue.
