Animas Museum announces upcoming history program

DURANGO, Colo. - The first program in the Animas Museum’s Fall Lectures Series is set for Thurs., Sept. 18, 7:30 p.m. and will feature local retired physician and historian Alan Fraser Houston.

Houston will present the illustrated program, “Silver San Juan - Jackson, Moran, & Ingersoll’s 1881 Promotional Tour of Southwest Colorado.”  In August 1881 the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad outfitted a special train to bring photographer William H. Jackson, artist Thomas Moran, and journalist Ernest Ingersoll to the new town of Durango to promote the San Juan mining region.

The program, to be held at the Animas Museum, 3065 W. 2nd Ave., Durango, is free to the public. For further information, call 259.2402.
